In Memorium (keep reading….)

Earlier this summer our friends at 7.62 Designs sent us a new piece of art, after the shocking news that, finally, President Obama had gotten our man. (Actually, that President Obama, some brave Navy Seals, a bunch of strategic folks and Defense officials had gotten our man.) Whatever our individual political leanings or feelings about war and it’s damage, I think that most of us thought back to September 11, 2001 and felt a certain closure, and real pride in the people who brought that terrible episode to a close. And sorrow and thanks for the victims and heroes who were lost along the way.

So we printed it. Here it is:

Concurrent with this, we had a request from a commander in the field in Afghanistan. His battalion was Task Force Linebacker, Operation Enduring Freedom, charged with route clearance, disarming roadside bombs and the like. Really heroic folks. Michael Landefeld, our terrific pinup artist, had designed a custom commemorative sticker for them, and suggested they get in touch with Yujean Stickers to see if we could help get them printed in time for the team to head home at the end of their tour in August. Something small, but positive, for these brave Americans, commemorating their great sacrifice.

So we did.

And, just a few days ago, we received a thank you.

The flag is said to have flown at half staff in honor of a fallen soldier there at Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan.

We were all, you can imagine, speechless. That we had the honor of participating was enough…and that these folks thought of us was pretty astonishing.

We love making stickers, and finding art, and creating cool stuff. It’s always fun and satisfying. Once in a great while, like this, it even feels a little meaningful.

Godspeed to the men and women of the 863rd Engineer Battalion.
